Lanzarote completely stole my heart. It’s one of those places where everything is super close — max 1-hour drive from coast to coast — making it the perfect island for a short getaway. I stayed near the airport, and it was the best decision: short drives, easy access, and pure relaxation.

If you're planning a trip to Lanzarote, here’s everything you need to know — from renting a car and where to stay, to top things to do and the most Instagrammable spots on the island.

🛏️ Where to Stay in Lanzarote

I stayed in a gorgeous Airbnb near the airport, and it was absolutely stunning. The host was lovely, the house was spotless, and the whole place was beautifully styled — ideal for Instagram photos too.

💸 Around €130 per night 🏡 Link to Airbnb 📍Location: Close to the airport (ideal base)

🚗 Getting Around Lanzarote: Rent a Car from CICAR

I highly recommend renting a car on the island. I booked mine with CICAR and honestly, it was one of the easiest rental experiences I’ve ever had.

  • 3 nights cost: €130

  • Included: Full insurance, no deposit, no pre-payment

  • Car: Fiat 500 (manual) – perfect for Lanzarote’s roads

  • How to book: Just reserve online — no credit card required!

📸 Top Attractions & Instagrammable Places in Lanzarote

Here’s a list of my favorite places on the island — from volcanic landscapes to dreamy beaches. These are a mix of must-visits and perfect photo spots:

1. Famara Beach

Wild, raw, and beautifully untouched. The wide stretch of golden sand set against the dramatic cliffs of El Risco creates a surreal, cinematic backdrop. It’s the perfect place for long walks, beach photos, or simply soaking in the energy of the Atlantic waves. Whether you’re into surfing or just want to relax by the sea, this beach has a special vibe that feels both peaceful and powerful.

📍 Bonus tip: If you're already in the area, make sure to drive up to Mirador de El Risco de Famara. It’s a lesser-known viewpoint that offers an absolutely stunning panoramic view over Famara Beach and the surrounding cliffs — a perfect spot for sunset photos or quiet reflection above the coastline.

2. Jameos del Agua

A unique spot created by César Manrique inside a volcanic tunnel. The museum, the natural cave pool, and the architecture are all worth it. 🎟️ €20 per person (includes both Jameos and Cueva de los Verdes) 🍽️ Bonus: There are 3 restaurants here if you want to relax and take your time.

3. César Manrique Foundation

This was Manrique’s personal home, and it’s a masterpiece — a mix of nature, architecture, and art. 🎟️ €10 per person 📸 Super Instagrammable — every corner is a photo opportunity.

4. Las Grietas

You’ve probably seen this on Instagram already — narrow volcanic crevices perfect for cool shots.

💡 Tip: Park nearby and walk 10 minutes uphill. Wear proper shoes! 🎟️ Free

5. Playa del Janubio

Playa del Janubio is a striking black sand beach that feels almost otherworldly, especially at sunrise. The deep volcanic sand contrasts beautifully with the golden morning light, creating a soft, glowing atmosphere that’s perfect for peaceful walks and stunning photos. You’ll likely have the beach almost to yourself early in the morning, making it an ideal spot to start your day in Lanzarote.

Located near the famous salt flats of Janubio, this beach is more about natural beauty than swimming, as the waves can be strong — but the views are unforgettable. Bring a warm drink, sit on the rocks, and watch the sun slowly rise over the horizon — it's simple, serene, and so worth the early wake-up.

📸 Tip: Sunrise here is a dream for photographers — make sure your camera or phone is fully charged!

6. Playa del Papagayo

A must-see! Crystal clear water, soft sand, and cliffs around it.🌅 Best time: Sunset.🏞️ Tip: Climb up the mountain for epic sunset views and photos.

7. La Geria Wine Region

Lanzarote’s famous wine-growing area — black volcanic soil and green vines make it a surreal landscape.

🍷 Go wine tasting, take drone shots, and explore the nearby bodegas.

8. Timanfaya National Park

A very touristy stop but still worth it if you’re curious about the island’s volcanic history. 🎟️ €25 per person 🚌 It’s a guided bus ride — not much walking. 💡 Go early (before 10AM) to avoid queues, and bring a jacket — it gets windy!

9. Los Hervideros & Lago Verde

You can do both in one short stop. Dramatic cliffs, deep blue waters, and a green lagoon. 🎟️ Free 📷 Beautiful natural landscapes for photos.

  1. Kamezí Deli & Bistro

Want a special dinner? This Michelin-starred restaurant offers a fine dining experience with an ocean view. 💸 Around €160 per person for the tasting menu 🍸 You can also just grab drinks at the bar and enjoy the scenery.

11. Natural Pools

Skip Las Chorros — it’s not worth the hike and it's too dangerous to swim in. ✅ Instead, search “Piscina Natural Lanzarote” on Google Maps — much safer, easier to access, and still beautiful.

📌 Final Tips

  • How long to stay? 3–5 days is perfect

  • Best way to explore? Rent a car

  • When to go? All year round — Lanzarote has sunshine and mild temperatures even in winter

  • What to pack? Sneakers, layers (it can get windy), and your best camera!

Lanzarote is such a gem — from volcanic landscapes and secret beaches to architectural marvels and wine valleys. And the best part? Everything is just a short drive away.

If you’re dreaming of an island escape that mixes adventure, culture, and aesthetics, Lanzarote is it. ✨
